This tactic plays into our need to belong. Using social media to gain peer approval is intoxicating and addictive. We want validation for our work, family and life choices. Cialdini’s concept of “social proof” operates here[xviii].
Two iconic quotes illustrate this tactic: “Everyone else is doing it,” and, “Over 1,000,000 copies sold!”
To handle this tactic, distinguish that you do not fit into the social group: “I am not everyone else.”
